Radio Controlled Model Sailplanes

Although Paul has flown most types of models in the past, our main activity is now radio controlled gliders.  The pictures show the latest in a line of 2.5 and 2.9 metre wingspan thermal soaring sailplanes designed and built by Paul.  He has also produced the computerised radio control equipment that we use. 

We launch these types of thermal soarer by means of an electric winch and seek out rising air in the same manner as the pilot of a full size sailplane.  By working the "lift" we often get flights lasting tens of minutes, the main limitation being our ability to retain visual contact at height or distance.
