Slope Soaring with Radio Controlled Gliders Model gliders are often flown from slopes making use of the lift that is generated by wind blowing towards a hillside. This activity is very popular with those flyers with easy access to suitable geographic locations.
Living some distance from suitable hills we only get to slope soar infrequently so usually fly "fun" models. The picture shows a "Zagi", a popular flying wing version built using a resilient plastic foam making it as close to being indestructible as a model can be. It is highly manoeuvrable in the air and certainly keeps the pilot alert! See the links page to find details of our model club; Thames Valley Silent Flyers. |
